Batemans breakaway

Monday saw us packing at last, and after a quick trip to the hardware store for a new tarp (makeshift repair for tent cover) we were on our way.  Three nights RNR and sleeping in a real bed!

Here is my only look at parliament house.  Glenn visited it the following weekend but I was busy at the show.

Not sure what this building was but it looked very impressive!

Interesting church close to parliament house

Canberra was dusty and dry but an hour into NSW and it went all cloudy and moist.  The clouds so low in places they hid the nearby hills from view

I learned that roads that appear slightly wavy on the map are actually very steep and winding!  I wonder what the dogs were thinking as we wound our way through hairpin after hairpin!

Once we were through the worst of it we had to stop and count our blessings!  (and Glenn needed a smoke!)  Here is Trixx and me in the forest.

Glenn being "waterwise" *lol*

How is this for a house by the beach?!

And another right on the ocean (with Glenn in the foreground looking to see if there was a "For Sale" sign!)

Batemans area beaches looked pretty rough tho!

Batemans Bay locals enjoying the view

We found the old man of the sea! (can you see him too?)

We stayed at "Wombat Lodge" - tho we didn't see any wombats, just lots of kangaroos!   Very comfortable house on 5 acres with friendly, easy going hosts.  Wombat Lodge is situated about halfway between Batemans Bay and Moruya.

The lodge is actually duplex style but fully self contained and still private. Dogs are allowed inside but we chose not to as not all were trustworthy and we didn't think it was fair to let some in and not others!  The youngsters slept in the trolleys on the large verandah outside the bedroom door. The bigguns staying in the trailer.   There was plenty of room to let them have a run although Jules spent most of her time running around and through the dam!  yuk!  Mia and Portia were very naughty often waiting until my back was turned and nicking off up the hill to the neighbours house!   Luc spent most of his time eating roo and duck poo! (actually truth be told he spent a large proportion of his holiday eating poo! - gross little boys!)

We also did a couple of long walks.  100m or so down the road I could let them off lead for a long walk along the firebreak that follows the powerlines.  They also got a run along the offlead dog beach at Broulee which is about a 5 min drive away.

Puppies (and Mia) accom on the verandah - We had to cover them with blankets so they couldn't see to do any roo spotting early in the morning!

Big dog accom under the deck

Sun shining through the trees on "that hill" - the neighbours Mia was so intent on visiting lived to the left of the pic, just over the top of the hill!

View from the deck at the front of the house and down to Jules' dam!
