Canberra Royal 2009

Camping at the Royal was certainly an experience!  Much more like a regular Ag show than a Royal but fun all the same.  It was certainly nice to be set up in one spot for the 4 days and not be having to pack the tent etc each morning.

Camp Canberra - We had a 3 roomed house - Bedroom (roof tent), Living room (Gazebo), Kitchen/changeroom (trailer tent).  This pic taken as we were packing so the side walls are already off the Gazebo but you get the idea.  We used a lot of sweat, swearing and bent two tent pegs setting up.  Bloody Canberra ground is harder than concrete!!

First up on Thursday morning was Mia who had competition in breed for the first time ever so we were very pleased when she came home with Best of Breed!!  Thanks to Glenn for the pics below.

Border Collies were on Saturday.  After their trip over they were in desperate need of a bath and I was lucky to find the Canberra Vet Hospital had a DIY hydrobath facility.   About a 2 min drive from the showgrounds and highly recommended as a place to bath the dogs if you are visiting Canberra.

They charged approx $43 for all the BC's - of course I had all my own shampoo, towels etc but they left you to it and you could take as long as you liked.  They were also extremely flexible on bookings and very friendly.  :)

So to the results...

Luc was Baby of breed and went on to win Best Baby of the Day (Working Dogs). Unfortunately no pics of him  :(

Billy won Intermediate Dog Class

Jules was 3rd in Puppy bitch

Portia was unplaced but showed beautifully for her first time back in the ring in nearly 2 years! Unfortunately she had forgotten to bring her clothes with her on the trip!

Not that she looks too disappointed with her loss   ;)

Later that day there was an Australian Breeds Show.  The entry of Border Collies was significantly smaller than the Royal.  Judge was a local Canberran (but I don't remember her name and can't find the catalogue!).  No pics from this one.

Results -
Luc - 1st Baby Dog
Billy - 2nd Intermediate dog
Trixx - 1st Baby Bitch and Baby of Breed (her first show)
Jules - 2nd Puppy Bitch
Jodi - Unplaced Intermediate Bitch (but she was more bald than Portia so not a surprise!)
Portia - not entered
Mia - being a German breed was not eligible.  ;)
